Frequently Asked Questions
How does automatic backup work?
Automatic backup saves all of Companion's data in a single file at the interval you choose (daily or weekly). You don't do anything — the system works in the background. Backup files are stored on your device or in the location you choose.
Is there a difference between daily and weekly backup?
Daily backup takes a backup regularly every day and protects your most up-to-date data. Weekly backup runs at longer intervals and provides data security going back in time. You can turn on both, or pick one depending on your needs.
Can I create a manual backup?
Yes. On top of automatic backups, you can create a manual backup at any moment. Take one before or after an important change to stay in control.
Can I share the backup file?
Yes. You can share the backup file securely by email, message or cloud storage. For example, you can set up an elderly relative's system yourself or send the backup file to your family.
How do I restore on a new phone?
After installing Companion on the new phone, the Setup Wizard offers you a "Restore from Backup" option. Choose your backup file and all your data comes back within a few minutes.
What information is backed up?
All Companion module data is backed up: Check-in Time settings, Reminders and their history, Special Days entries, special day settings, Location Reminders, My Location Book, Smart Clipboard, Fall Detection, Immobility Detection, Emergency Contacts, Message Templates and more.
Can backups from older versions be used?
Yes. Backup files include version information. Backups from older versions can be restored if they're compatible with the current version. If they aren't compatible, the system warns you and offers a conversion.
